Visual reference desk
Chapter-matched gameplay with the exact location, objective, landmark and mistake to avoid.
- OBJECTIVE
- Read enemy placement before selecting single-target or area Techs.
- LOOK FOR
- Enemy clusters, the active-time gauges and party HP/MP.
- DO THIS
- Wait for enemies to group before spending MP on an area attack.
- AVOID
- Do not queue a heal so late that another enemy turn resolves first.
- OBJECTIVE
- Use the Roly encounter to learn active-time timing and basic resource control.
- LOOK FOR
- Roly positions and the party status panel at the bottom.
- DO THIS
- Basic attacks are enough here; save MP for the Cathedral route.
- AVOID
- Grinding every respawn wastes Tonics without improving the route meaningfully.
- OBJECTIVE
- Navigate the trap-and-switch rooms with enough MP remaining for the Black Tyranno sequence.
- LOOK FOR
- Torch pairs, Reptite guards and floor switches that identify the correct corridor.
- DO THIS
- Use Lightning on dinosaur enemies when needed, but keep a reserve for the boss countdown phase.
- AVOID
- Do not enter the boss route with the party grouped at low HP; fire attacks can punish all three.
Authentic gameplay: captures come from the OldGames emulator when available and are checked against credited editorial references when needed. Every frame is assigned only to the chapter it actually depicts. No AI-generated gameplay artwork or recreated mockups are used.

Millennial Fair and the vanished princess
Meet Marle, enter Lucca's telepod and begin the first trip through time.
Marle rescued and the party returned to 1000 A.D.
-
Step 01
Explore the fair before visiting Lucca: return the little girl's cat, leave the old man's lunch alone, check on Marle before picking up her pendant, and wait while she chooses candy. These choices affect Crono's later trial.
-
Step 02
Meet Marle at Lucca's telepod demonstration, inspect the pendant after the experiment fails, and follow her through the Gate instead of continuing around the fair.
-
Step 03
Cross Truce Canyon in 600 A.D., enter Guardia Castle, and speak with Queen Leene until Marle's disappearance redirects the investigation toward the cathedral.
-
Step 04
Inspect the cathedral's suspicious sparkle, join Frog, work through the hidden passage, and defeat Yakra to rescue the real queen and restore Marle.
- OBJECTIVE
- Read enemy placement before selecting single-target or area Techs.
- LOOK FOR
- Enemy clusters, the active-time gauges and party HP/MP.

Marle rescued and the party returned to 1000 A.D.
The trial and ruined future
Escape Guardia, cross the gate and learn what happened to the world.
Robo recruited and the End of Time reached.
-
Step 01
Answer the Chancellor's questions honestly, then conserve healing items during the prison sequence; either escape early or wait for Lucca's rescue route.
-
Step 02
Search the cells for supplies, free prisoners when possible, and defeat the Dragon Tank by disabling its repairing head before finishing its wheel and body.
-
Step 03
Enter the Gate beyond Guardia Forest, cross the ruined domes of 2300 A.D., and defeat the Guardian in Arris Dome to reach the food-storage computer and witness the Day of Lavos recording.
-
Step 04
Continue through Proto Dome, restore Robo, clear the Factory security systems, and use the new Gate to reach the End of Time.
Robo recruited and the End of Time reached.
Magic, Masamune and Magus
Unlock magic, repair the legendary blade and confront Magus.
Magus confronted and the prehistoric era opened.
-
Step 01
Walk clockwise around Spekkio's room exactly as instructed, then bring every eligible party member to him so Crono, Marle, Lucca, and later Frog receive their elemental magic.
-
Step 02
Clear Heckran Cave, support Guardia's troops at Zenan Bridge, and climb Denadoro Mountains to defeat Masa and Mune for the Broken Masamune.
-
Step 03
Collect Tata's Hero Medal, show it to Frog, inspect the broken hilt, and make the first trip to 65,000,000 B.C. to win Ayla's Dreamstone and recover the stolen Gate Key.
-
Step 04
Ask Melchior to repair the Masamune, return it to Frog, open the Magic Cave, and climb Magus's Castle; during the Magus fight, match the element named by his current barrier.
Magus confronted and the prehistoric era opened.
Prehistory and the Tyranno Lair
Join Ayla and stop the Reptite threat before the next time shift.
The party carried into the era of Zeal.
-
Step 01
Restock in Ioka Village after the time shift and trade for Ruby Vests or Ruby Armor if available; their fire resistance is extremely useful in the upcoming fortress.
-
Step 02
Visit the ruined Laruba Village, follow Ayla to Dactyl Nest, and climb to the summit to obtain transportation to Tyranno Lair.
-
Step 03
Free Kino and the imprisoned villagers, use the floor switches to open the correct passages, and keep Lightning damage ready for Nizbel II's armored defense cycle.
-
Step 04
Defeat Azala first in the final chamber, then pressure Black Tyranno when its guard drops during the countdown instead of wasting attacks against its protected state.
The party carried into the era of Zeal.
Zeal, Ocean Palace and the turning point
Navigate the magical kingdom and survive the game's central crisis.
Epoch upgraded and the final set of quests available.
-
Step 01
Explore Enhasa and Kajar before advancing, activate their elemental-book secrets, and charge Marle's pendant at the Mammon Machine so it can open sealed doors.
-
Step 02
Climb the Mountain of Woe, free Melchior, defeat Giga Gaia one side at a time, and return to Zeal prepared for Dalton's Golem encounters.
-
Step 03
Descend through the Ocean Palace, preserve MP for its final rooms, and regroup after the confrontation with Lavos changes the party permanently.
-
Step 04
Recover every character's equipment aboard the Blackbird, reclaim the Epoch, make the permanent Magus decision at North Cape, then obtain the Time Egg and use the fairground clone to restore Crono on Death Peak.
Epoch upgraded and the final set of quests available.
Character quests, Black Omen and Lavos
Strengthen every hero before choosing the final route.
Lavos defeated and an ending reached.
-
Step 01
Ask Gaspar about each unfinished thread, then complete Fiona's Sunken Desert and leave Robo to restore the forest; return in 1000 A.D. to finish Lucca's campfire event.
-
Step 02
Bring Robo to Geno Dome, Frog to the Northern Ruins, and Lucca to the Sun Stone route so their personal quests unlock major equipment and story conclusions.
-
Step 03
Complete Giant's Claw and the Rainbow Shell trial, visit Ozzie's Fort if Magus joined, and forge the Prism equipment before committing to the finale.
-
Step 04
Clear the Black Omen from future to past if repeating its encounters, defeat Queen Zeal and the Mammon Machine, then fight through Lavos and focus the right-side Bit - the true core - during its vulnerable window.
Lavos defeated and an ending reached.
Secrets & field notes
Optional knowledge for safer runs and fuller completion.
Sealed chest upgrades
When a chest in the past asks whether to open it, decline, then open its future version first for an upgraded reward before returning to the past.
Tech learning
Keep characters active in battle to gain Tech Points; dual and triple techs become available from compatible learned skills.
New Game+ endings
After clearing the game, New Game+ opens earlier Lavos access points that make alternate endings practical.
Questions players ask
Direct answers to common progression blocks.
Do I need to complete every side quest before Lavos?
No, but the late character quests provide excellent equipment and resolve important story arcs.
Should I fight Magus when given the choice?
Either path continues the story. Refusing the duel allows Magus to join, while fighting changes that outcome.
What party is best for the final battle?
Several teams work. Bring reliable group healing, strong single-target damage and equipment that protects against status effects.
